Canada’s entry into the World Cup this year has brought excitement to the country. Young soccer players are the mainstay of the Canadian team and the sports bar crowd is ready to watch the game.
36 years later Canada returned to the World Cup thanks to a talent generation, Alphonso Davies, and “he was named the CONCACAF men’s player of the year,” reported from The Toronto Star which is a Canadian English-language newspaper owned by the company called Torstar and Star Media Group.
Davies is the face of the team headed to Qatar, and Canada could go far under his leadership.
“Fandom can get some individuals, especially the younger generation interested in soccer and involved in a sport.” Richard Norman said in a phone interview. He is a Postdoctoral Fellow, and Future of Sport Lab (FSl) at Ted Rogers School of Management.
The month-long tournament will open on Sunday with Qatar, the World Cup kickoff times are between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. EST.
“It’s very different from the bar’s opening hours”, Dilakshan Emmanuel who is a manager from Hoops Sports Bar Said, “We will see if we need to change the opening hours a little earlier.” Toronto bars are usually open from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. EST.
Ontario just announced allowing earlier alcohol services at 7 a.m. EST during the FIFA World Cup 2022 tournament.
“The World Cup brings soccer and non-soccer fans together, and I think it is a great engagement event that brings people together and their enthusiasm for sports,” Norman said.
